Beautiful! It’d been years since I went to Santa Barbara and boy had it changed! In a really great way! I had to get some documents from the Hall of Records (court house) so I picked a Thursday late morning to drive from L.A. I had very little traffic other than the usual construction that seems to always plague our freeways, so the drive was about an hour and a half and very scenic. Love when you can see on one side from the 101 the Pacific Ocean and the other side the gorgeous mountains! It was busy for a weekday in downtown Santa Barbara, so street parking was tough however there are parking garages and I found spots open. The only drawback was for my father who has a handicap, those spots were few and all taken. So now on to the Courthouse Gardens, magnificent!!! So much to enjoy in the entire area. I saw lots of people dressed up (perhaps a wedding?) as well as locals and tourists milling about, taking selfies (lots of photo ops for sure) and people relaxing having lunch in the gardens. Business suits also (probably working in or around the Courthouse and other city offices nearby). Lots of local shops and restaurants too! I’m sure the weekends it’s busy so I sugges

The courthouse itself is gorgeous, but the gardens are also a great place to sit or wander a while. Lots of weddings and other events going on pretty much all the time.

In a word I would say, OBSESSED. As a wedding photographer i’ve been here a few times now and this is by far THE prettiest courthouse in all the land!! There are so many spots to take photos which we loveeee and then for the paperwork and ceremony the team here is so efficient. (I’d give maybe 30 minutes for this part!) You can stay and take photos on the grounds and no one will rush you out, we did these at sunrise which I highly recommend since there’s hardly anyone there and you get that dreamt overcast look! Had such a wonderful time and would recommend this courthouse time and time again.

Very cool historical gem in Santa Barbra. I really enjoyed the docent led tour. Beautiful grounds. Be aware this is a working courthouse therefore there is security to get into the building. I had to forfeit my spray sunscreen 🥲

Santa Barbara County Courthouse Gardens are truly a hidden gem. I only wish I had known about this place in advance so I could have spent more time exploring every corner. It’s incredible how history and modern life coexist so seamlessly here. From the moment you enter, it feels like stepping into a movie—everything is beautifully designed, peaceful, and full of charm. What makes it even more remarkable is that this historic place is still fully functioning. It’s hard to imagine what it must feel like to work in a setting with so much history and character. I would absolutely come back again and highly recommend adding this place to your visit list.
